Cambridge City Council demonstrate it is possible to put in place effective infrastructure organic waste and compostable packaging
Cambridge City Council introduce four new public bins for food scraps and compostable packaging. The bins are close to food retailers using verified compostable products, so customers getting takeaways can dispose of waste in the most eco-friendly way. It is estimated that emissions from composting food waste are just 14% compared to sending to landfill.
The project demonstrates how infrastructure for collection of organic waste and compostable packaging can be part of kerbside collection plan. It will reduce emissions as well as plastic pollution
